Maya Shore
Farewell To Introductions CD [MF7]

Have you ever been to a place for the first time and while you are there everything makes sense and you are completely happy, and from then on that place becomes somewhere you go to escape from everything and to be at peace with yourself? Maya Shore, an area on the West coast of Mexico, was that type of place to original drummer Cody Young. The rest of the band embraced the name because it seemed to symbolize what music meant to them: being able to create peaceful surroundings around the listener where he can feel at ease and at one with himself.

Kelly Chambers and Wade Chamberlain began writing songs and playing shows together in the summer of 1997. Since then, the group has seen as many drummers come and go as Spinal Tap, starting with Young, going through several temporary replacements, and including Chris Purdie (Forty Nine Hudson) who was the drummer during the sessions of Farewell to Introductions and was an essential part of the sound of the record.

Maya Shore creates melodic rock music that is sometimes mellow but other times decidedly not so. The eight songs on Farewell to Introductions represent the best songs of the group's first three years together. This relatively lengthy gap between formation and first full length has allowed the band to spend ample time recording the music, letting them iterate and improve upon the songs over time in order to create the best songs possible.

After finishing the album it became apparent to Chambers and Chamberlain that they weren't going to be able to create the music live the way they wanted as a three piece. Scott Johnson, who co-produced the album with Chamberlain as well as played keyboards on three tracks, was asked to become a full-time member along with Yoni Gileadi on second guitar and Alisha Smith on violin as well as Jeremy Rice on drums.
